Evelyn Klinetop


Evelyn Klinetop, 85, of Charles City, formerly of Mason City, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2011 at 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt Street in Charles City. Rev. Dennis Niezwaag of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Osage Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Evelyn was born on July 22, 1925 in Grafton, Iowa, the daughter of Max and Emma (Kirchgatter) Runge. She grew up on her family’s farm in Grafton. She would later move to St. Ansgar, and after her marriage to Loren E. Weaverling on December 18, 1942, the couple moved to Osage. In 1945 they again moved to Mason City where she would live for nearly 40 years. Evelyn was employed at Mode-O-Day for many years where she sewed garments. Loren passed away in 1977. She would again remarry on February 24, 1989 to Howard James, however, Howard passed away later that year. Evelyn was united in marriage to Allan Klinetop on September 16, 2000. They moved to Charles City where she has resided since.

Evelyn enjoyed sewing and created many quilts. Loren and Evelyn took pride in tending their garden, specializing in all varieties of roses. Evelyn also created special flower arrangements for weddings. They also played a large part in starting the rose garden in State Center. Loren and Evelyn traveled extensively around the United States, and even took a trip around Europe while their son was in the service. They were members of the Camping Club, the Citizen Band Radio Club, the Garden Club and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason City. Evelyn’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family, and she especially took pleasure in seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husbands, Loren Weaverling and Howard James; her parents; brother, Virgil Runge; and sister, Arlene Klinetop.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Allan Klinetop; son, Larry (Mary) Weaverling of Des Moines; step-son, Marvin (Sheryl) Klinetop of Floyd; grandchildren, Shawn Weaverling, Ryan (Heather) Weaverling, Nicholas Klinetop, Amber (Jeremy) Deverell, Howard “Jay” James II, Mark (Linda) James and Kim (Bill) Lewande; great-grandchildren, Tristan and Sydney Weaverling, Elijah and Gabriella Deverell, Josh James, Lauren and Carly James and Ashleigh and Meghan Lewande; and sisters, Hazel Wirtjes of Britt and Vivian Gallup of Sparta, IL.

Robert J. “Bob” Murray


Robert J. “Bob” Murray, 81, of Charles City, died Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Robert Murray will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday where the Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. and a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m. followed by the Rosary led by the Knights of Columbus. Visitation will continue after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.

Robert James Murray was born September 13, 1929, in Charles City, the son of Austin and Estella (Kehoe) Murray. He graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy. In 1951, he served in the United States Navy. On November 19, 1955, he was united in marriage to Jo Ellen Marron in Waucoma. Bob farmed all of his life from the age of 16 and also was a salesman for Pioneer Seed Corn for 19 years. Over the years, he was a board member of the Floyd County Pork Producers, Northeast Iowa Research Farm, YMCA, Immaculate Conception Parish Council and local co-operative. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge and a volunteer with the Charles City Fire Department. Bob had a passion for farming, car shopping and spending time with his family. He also loved driving the SAG wagon for RAGBRAI for 10+ years. Bob and Jo Ellen enjoyed wintering in Phoenix, Ariz. for 15 years where they met many new friends.

Living family members include his wife of 55 years, Jo Ellen Murray of Charles City; six children, Rick (Bette) Murray of Floyd, Jeannie (Jerry) Parker of Cedar Rapids, Jeff (Lori) Murray of Charles City, Kevin Murray of Johnston, Craig (Sherrie) Murray of Olathe, Kans. and Jennifer (Andy) Girkin of Urbandale; 16 grandchildren; four great grandchildren: and a brother, Jim Murray of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Pat Fitzpatrick and Marie Simmons; and a brother, Bill Murray.

Michael E. Oxley, 55, of Charles City, died Tuesday morning, March 22, 2011, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Memorial services for Michael Oxley will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Mason City. Pastor Jim Stiles will officiate. Inurnment will be in Concord Cemetery, Garner.

Archie A. Ingersoll


Archie A. Ingersoll, 96, formerly of 616 8th Ave., Charles City, peacefully passed away Saturday night, March 19, 2011

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St, Charles City. Officiating will be the Rev’s. Gordon Berryman and Martin Miller. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Howardville Cemetery. Archie Alan was born on July 22, 1914 in rural Floyd the youngest son of Robert Maurice and Effie May (Childs) Ingersoll. He attended rural schools and then graduated from Floyd High School in 1933, unusual at the time. He farmed for a few years and then worked in the foundry at Oliver/White Farm for 25 years until retiring in 1976. He very much enjoyed woodworking and fixing everything mechanical in his shop. Archie was a bike rider many years before Ragbrai was ever thought of and continued riding his bike until age 91. On June 17, 1945 he was united in marriage to Mildred Turner in Osage. They made their home in Charles City on 8th street after raising their children in rural Floyd. He was great with kids and was everybody’s “Archie Grandpa.” He always was taking kids fishing and camping and greatly enjoyed the social aspect. While farming one of his great pleasures was working with his horses. Archie looked forward to the family reunions and volunteering with the kids at the “Y”. He was active in his church and its bible school program. He also enjoyed music and was a self-taught harmonica player.

He is survived by one sister; Jeanne Ingersoll of Phoenix, Arizona; two of his children, Russell and his wife, Tedi Ingersoll, of Weirton, West Virginia and Sandra Dugan and her husband, Mike of Charles City; 8 grandchildren, Candice and Tadd Ingersoll, Crystal Hinders, Kimmy Dugan, Kathi Guenther, Bryan and Linda Zimmerman and Laurie Labounty; 14 great grandchildren, Larissa, Kaylin, Ryan, Jennie, and Megan Ingersoll, Alex Riley and Matt Meyer, Dawson and Owen Hinders, Morgan and Landon Guenther, Nathan Zimmerman, and Taylor and Regan Labounty. .

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, on January 15, 1995; one child in infancy; daughter, Lois Zimmerman; sisters, Georgiana Ross and Dorothy Goecken; two brothers, Maurice and Lewis Ingersoll and a great-granddaughter, Angel Hinders..

Vivian Decker Quam


Vivian Decker Quam, 78, of Northwood, formerly of Floyd and Nashua, died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Heritage Care Center in Mason City.

Funeral services for Vivian Quam will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood. Pastor Karen Grandall will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Vivian Nelda Ida Kalke Decker Quam was born January 19, 1933, in Floyd County, the daughter of Milo and Viola (Kamin) Kalke. She graduated from Floyd High School. Vivian also attended North Iowa Area Community College and Iowa State University for income tax courses. On September 9, 1950, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Decker at Austin, Minn. Lloyd died on October 1, 1994. Vivian married Gaylen Quam on May 4, 1996 at Northwood. For many years Vivian was a tax consultant in Charles City and then at Northwood. She thoroughly enjoyed meeting people and working with numbers and math. Vivian was a member of the First Lutheran Church. Her interests included reading, sewing and canning. She sewed over 500 quilt tops for Lutheran World Relief. Vivian also enjoyed singing in the past with the choir at Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd and was the soloist for many weddings at the Little Brown Church. She will always be remembered for her love of others and sharing life’s experiences with them.

Living family members include her husband, Gaylen Quam of Northwood; a daughter, Joy (Tom) Krieger of Nashua; three sons, Michael Decker of Sanborn, Russell (Wendy) Decker of Osage and Gene Quam of Northwood; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Foote, Jesse Krieger, Luke Decker, Matthew Decker, Justin Kadner, Josh Decker and Trevor Decker; 8 great grandchildren; a sister, Nona Smith of Dike; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lloyd.

Memorials may be directed to the First Lutheran Church Quilters Club.

Lorna O. Stern


Lorna O. Stern, 90, of 211 7th St. NE, Rockford, Iowa died Thursday, March 17, 2011, with her family at her side, at the Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs, Iowa, where she was a resident for only a week.
 
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, March 21, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church, 805 East Main, Rockford, Iowa. Officiating will be the Pastors Alan Schultz and Patricia Shaw. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 pm Sunday at the Church. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford. Memorials may be directed to the Lorna Stern Memorial Fund in care of the family. Lorna Otillia was born the fourth child of Sanford and Ida (Williamson) Carlson on January 27, 1921 on the family farm near Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, rural Austin. She attended country school, graduating from the 8th grade. She was united in marriage to Warren Stern on July 3, 1938 in Cresco, Iowa. They farmed in various locations in Minnesota including Taopi, LeRoy, and Adams. Warren and Lorna moved their family to Iowa when he was employed at the Oliver Farm Equipment Company in Charles City. They lived first near Elma, then rural Rockford, and moved into Rockford in 1948.

Lorna helped with the work on the farm, including milking cows and raising chickens. For many years she raised a vegetable garden and enjoyed canning and freezing the produce. She loved flowers and will be remembered for her “green thumb.” When the children were older she worked outside the home. She was a cook at the Rockford school, worked at the Rockford Brick and Tile Company, and was a seamstress for the Mode O’Day clothing factory in Mason City, Iowa. For many years Warren and Lorna enjoyed spending their summers fishing on Mille Lacs Lake in Minnesota. A favorite trip for them was in 1962 when they traveled by train to Tacoma, Washington, to visit Diane and Timm while he was in the Army. For the last twelve years of Warren’s life she cared for him at home.

She was very talented with the crochet hook and knitting needles. Family members have many afghans, doilies, and other items to cherish. She also made lovely doilies with beads, many things with plastic canvas, and hats and purses out of beverage cans. Lorna was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and had a special place on her living room wall with many pictures of them. She was looking forward to the birth of her great-great-granddaughter in June.

Surviving Lorna are her three children Leona and her husband Morris Parcher, Dale and his wife Janet Stern, and Diane and her husband Lyle “Timm” Marker, all of Rockford; seven Grandchilden including Leona and Morris’ children Kenneth (Rebecca) Parcher, Northwood; Paul (Kara) Parcher, Rockford; David (Joan) Parcher, Navarre, Fl; Karen (Jason) Moss, Council Bluffs; and Diane and Timm’s children Leon (Vicky) Marker, Rockford, Troy Marker and fiancĂ© Chira, Centerville, IA; and Craig Marker, Nora Springs; 15 Great-Grandchildren Christopher (Sabrina) Parcher, Matthew, Lauren, Ethan, Leigh and Shaun Parcher, Kyle, Austin, and Benjamin Moss, and Cory, Curtis, Garrett, Sadye, Dylan and Calen Marker. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Emily Carlson, Lois Carlson, Marlene and her husband Stan Radunz; brothers-in-law Eldred (Butch) Mayzlik, Donald Stern, George Ulrick, Sr., and special friends Fred and Margaret Schultz, Mason City, and Donavon and Juanita Schuster, DesMoines.

Lorna was preceded in death by her husband Warren in 1995, parents, three sisters Ruth Bos, Iola Harrington, Donna Mae Mayzlik, three brothers Sylvester, Palmer, and Roger Carlson, and one great-great-granddaughter Elora Grace Parcher.

Ralph H. Willert


Ralph H. Willert, 94, of 1820 230th St. Rockford, died Wednesday evening, March 16, 2011. 

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, March 19, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Roseville, Iowa. Officiating will be the Monsignor Walter Brunkan. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 Friday at Fullerton Hage funeral Home, 401 Blunt, Charles City, Iowa. A scripture service will be held at 4:00 with a rosary at 7:00. Ralph Henry was born one of three sons to Henry Louis and Minnie Augusta (Brandenburg) Willert on June 20, 1916.  Surrounded by his family, Ralph passed away at home on the family farm where he was born and raised.  Ralph graduated from the Rockford High School in 1935. He continued on the farm working hard all of his life. He loved raising his Angus cattle and tending to the farmstead, always keeping it immaculate. He joined the membership of St. Mary’s Catholic church when he was united in marriage to Thelma C. Staudt on February 16, 1944 at St. Mary’s. He rarely if ever missed masses and continued that tradition almost to the time of his death. He also drove his car up until January of this year. Ralph honorably served his country for a short time until he received a medical discharge. Ralph received several awards for his work on the farm and with various farming groups. In 1986, Ralph received an award for being the first farmer in Floyd County to raise 200+ bushel corn.  He was a member of the Iowa Cattleman’s Association and served on the Floyd County Board. Thelma and he very much enjoyed raising the family of two boys, and being with the six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In the early years he and Thelma would attend dances at the Moose and Elks Lodges in Charles City where they were members. On Sunday’s after church they looked forward to going to the old mall in Charles City where they could visit with family and friends. Ralph was a sports fan and enjoyed watching basketball and being a Vikings Fan.

His surviving family members include his two sons and wives David R. (Janice) and Dennis R. (Janet) Willert all of Rockford, six grandchildren Annette Willert, Wisconsin; Gina (Travis) Schumacher, New Hampton; Kristin (James) Whaley, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; Rick, Cassandra and Derek Willert all of Rockford, four great grandchildren Alex and Rylee Schumacher, Hannah Johnson, and Lily Grace Whaley, and two nieces, Colleen (Joe) Hellige of California and Mary Pat (Ron) Dulle, of Colorado.

His wife who died June 19, 1996, parents and two brothers Arthur and Robert Willert preceded Ralph in death.
