Robert J. (Bob) Eggert


Robert J. (Bob) Eggert, 88, passed away on February 28, 2010 at the Floyd County Medical Center. He was born on December 4, 1922, the son of Alfred R. Eggert and Martha E. (Allert) Eggert. Robert graduated from Charles City High School. In June 1942, he married Maxine Core. After service in the Pacific Theater during WWII, he graduated from the University of Iowa Law School in January 1948. In March of 1948, Robert was admitted to the bar and joined his father in a law firm originally established in 1877 by his grandfather. He practiced law for 62 years.

The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel selected Robert as a member, an honor that recognized his competency, integrity and commitment to the legal profession. He was a member of the Floyd County, Iowa State, and American Bar Associations.

Robert was a member of the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving as President of the Church council on two separate occasions.

Throughout his life, Robert was active in community affairs, serving on numerous boards and commissions, including the Family YMCA, the Charles City Library Foundation, and the St. Charles Cemetery Association. In 1957 he became a director of the Citizens National Bank. In 1973, he also became a director of First Citizens Financial Corporation, retiring from both boards in 2006. He was twice honored by First Citizens National Bank for his dedication and service.

He is preceded in death by daughter Barbara Eggert Hansen. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Maxine of Charles City; daughter, Karen Eggert Paget of Emeryville, Ca; four grandchildren, Tim Enwall of Boulder, Co; Nicholas Paget of Spokane, Wa; Kemmie Paget Barnes of San Diego, Ca; Teri Hansen Keeler of Niwot, Co; and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on April 8, 2011 at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to St. John Lutheran Church; the YMCA Foundation; the Charles City Library Foundation; or the charity of their choice.
