Timothy J. “Tim” Sullivan


Timothy J. “Tim” Sullivan, 85, of Charles City, died Saturday morning, August 13, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City.

A funeral Mass for Timothy Sullivan will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to service time Monday at the church.

Timothy Joseph Sullivan was born March 4, 1926, in New Hampton, the son of Raymond J. and Nora (McAloon) Sullivan. He graduated from the New Hampton High School and University of Iowa. Tim proudly served two years in the Army Air Force during WWII. On July 3, 1948, he was united in marriage to Letty Ardery in Iowa City. Tim was self-employed, operating Sullivan Insurance Agency for over 30 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club and various insurance associations and boards. His interests included camping, golf, pheasant hunting, the Iowa Hawkeyes, reading mystery and history books, researching his Irish ancestry, dancing and watching Lawrence Welk. Tim will be remembered for his strong faith and his devotion to prayer and family.

Living family members include his wife of 63 years, Letty Sullivan of Charles City; two children, Jayne (Tom) Holmstrom of Stillwater, Minn. and David (Cindy) Sullivan of Urbandale; eight grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Rebecca Jane Sullivan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Ln. Charles City, IA 50616.

Vielena Weigel


Vielena Weigel, 85, of Charles City, died Saturday morning, July 30, 2011, at the 11th St. Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Vielena Weigel will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Reverend Carl Ries of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.

The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Tuesday.

Vielena Weigel was born September 2, 1925, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Pete and Anna Caiharr. She attended country school in New Hampton. On June 23, 1944, she was united in marriage to Donald Weigel at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Hampton. Vielena was a devoted homemaker and was employed at Trowbridges Grocery and the Up Town Cafe in Charles City. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Vielena enjoyed watching Bob Barker and food.

Living family members include her two daughters, Cheryl (Merle) Stockness and Donna (Douglas) Holtz all of Charles City; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two step-great-great grandchildren; a brother, Frank Caiharr of Kansas City, Kans.; and several nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Terry Weigel; three brothers; and one sister.
