Darrell “Dean” Tynan


Darrell “Dean” Tynan, 75, of Charles City, died Saturday, October 1, 2011, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Dean Tynan will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Darrell Dean Tynan was born February 5, 1936, in Charles City, the son of James and Lettie (Hermen) Tynan. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1954. On August 14, 1955, he married Lila Crooks. They later divorced. Dean married JoAnn Hartzell on September 5, 1975. JoAnn died on September 17, 1977. Dean began a long time relationship with Victoria Putney which began on October 9, 1985. Over the years he was a mechanic at Albaugh Pontiac Buick which became Jennings Pontiac Buick and later Duroe’s Pontiac Buick. He was then self-employed at T&F Standard in Marble Rock. Dean was parts manager at Bissonnette Chevrolet for several years and then retired from Sara Lee where he was also parts manager. After his retirement he ran Dean’s Repair. He was a member of the Heritage Club. Dean enjoyed traveling, going to the casino, helping with Vickie’s Catering and talking with people. His greatest interest, however, was working with cars. Family was always important to Dean and he looked forward to sharing life’s experiences with them especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Living family members include his common law wife, Victoria Putney of Charles City; four children, Daniel “Jim” (Sandy) Tynan of Bolingbrook, Ill., Dennis Dean (Virginia) Tynan of Charles City, Janice (Dean) Miller of Independence and Steven (Lori) Tynan of Mason City; three step children, Anthony (Mitzi) Putney of Lumbard, Ill., Francis (Patricia) Putney of Spring Grove, Ill., and Beverley (Chris) Havens of Lake Geneva, Wisc.; 11 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; a step granddaughter; a brother, Jack (Judy) Tynan of Charles City; and three sisters, Mary Lou Sprague of Charles City, Beverly (Larry) Luck of Plainfield and Juaneta (Wayne) Miller of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife JoAnn; two brothers, Leo and his wife Barbara Tynan and Jerald Tynan; a sister and her husband, Rose and Wallace Washburn; and a brother-in-law, Jack Sprague.
