Timothy J. “Tim” Sullivan

Timothy J. “Tim” Sullivan, 85, of Charles City, died Saturday morning, August 13, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City.

A funeral Mass for Timothy Sullivan will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to service time Monday at the church.

Timothy Joseph Sullivan was born March 4, 1926, in New Hampton, the son of Raymond J. and Nora (McAloon) Sullivan. He graduated from the New Hampton High School and University of Iowa. Tim proudly served two years in the Army Air Force during WWII. On July 3, 1948, he was united in marriage to Letty Ardery in Iowa City. Tim was self-employed, operating Sullivan Insurance Agency for over 30 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club and various insurance associations and boards. His interests included camping, golf, pheasant hunting, the Iowa Hawkeyes, reading mystery and history books, researching his Irish ancestry, dancing and watching Lawrence Welk. Tim will be remembered for his strong faith and his devotion to prayer and family.

Living family members include his wife of 63 years, Letty Sullivan of Charles City; two children, Jayne (Tom) Holmstrom of Stillwater, Minn. and David (Cindy) Sullivan of Urbandale; eight grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Rebecca Jane Sullivan.

Kenneth Olmsted

Kenneth Olmsted, 75, of Charles City, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at his home.

Memorial services for Kenneth Olmsted will be held at a later date in Iowa City.

The son of Dorothy Louise (Kelley) and Henry Olmsted Sr., Kenneth was born May 25, 1936, in Charles City. His twin brother Keith died in infancy. Kenneth graduated from Charles City High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps before returning to Charles City. He was employed at the White Farm tractor plant in town and later at Salsbury Chemicals prior to his retirement in 2001. A member of the First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City, Kenneth was also proud of the fact that he participated in 27 different RAGBRAI tours across the state of Iowa.

Living family members include a sister, Grace Yamaguchi of San Francisco, Calif.; and two brothers, Donald Olmsted of Rochester, Ind., and James Olmsted of Colwell. He also has a sister-in-law, Grace Olmsted, living in Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Henry Jr., Eldon, John and Robert.

Patricia A. Bode

Patricia A. Bode, 67 of Charles City, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, July 12, 2011, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

A funeral Mass for Patricia Bode will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday where the Rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. and Scriptural Prayer Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour before the Mass at the church on Monday.

Patricia Ann Harker was born Sept. 28, 1943, in Spencer, Iowa, and a few years later, her family moved to Ocheyedan, Iowa. She attended Ocheyedan schools, graduating in 1961, and continued education at Worthington Junior College and University of Iowa, graduating in 1967 with a degree in social work. On November 13, 1965, she was united in marriage to Allan (Al) Bode at St. Thomas More in Iowa City. She worked as a kindergarten/classroom aide at Washington Elementary, before going to the junior high/middle school and finally the high school as a library assistant with 39 years of service, retiring in 2008. Patricia loved traveling, nature, music and the fine arts, attending basketball and softball games, gardening, cooking and movies, especially foreign films. She enjoyed collecting small boxes from other countries and unusual kaleidoscopes. She visited all but 7 states, lived in Guadalajara, Mexico in 1972 as well as accompanied students to Mexico several times. Her greatest love was reading and she always had a book with her on her Kindle in recent times. Patricia served on the Community Concerts Board, Public Library Board and was a long time member of the original Stony Point Players and the Sweet Adelines barbershop group. She was very active in the Iowa State Education association, serving in governance in local, regional and state levels. Education was her main priority.

Living family members include her husband of 45 years, Allan “Al”; two sons, Sean (Patricia), of Mazomanie, WI, Christopher (Joy), of Dubuque; five grandchildren, Tristan, Marissa, Victoria, Alexandria, and Sophia; two sisters, Elnora (Howard) Baker, Storm Lake, Pauline (Bob) Zabka, Swea City, a brother, John, and special friend Donna Evenson, Dawson, MN; mother-in-law, Marjorie Bode, Algona; two sisters-in-law, Jan (Allen) Christensen, Iowa City, Alice (Herb) McBride, Tucson, AZ; two brothers-in-law, Russell (Maggie) Bode, Algona, and Philip (Ann) Bode, Baton Rouge, LA., and numerous nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rolland and Cleeata Harker.

Thomas L. Hall, Sr.

Thomas L. Hall, Sr., 57, of Rockford, died Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Thomas Lee Hall, Sr. was born July 28, 1953, at Iowa City, the son of John and Pauline (Linderman) Hall. He received his education at Mason City. On February 22, 1975, he was united in marriage to Berniece Miller. Thomas enjoyed fishing, trapping and hunting. He looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren.

Living family members include his wife, Berniece Hall of Rockford; a son, Thomas Hall, Jr. of Clear Lake; three grandchildren, Jordan, Ashley and Sarah Hall; a brother, Michael Espinosa of Mason City, four sisters, Dorothy (John) Thieland of Wis., Frances McMann of Ark., Charlotte (Jerry Calvert) Linchman of Nora Springs and Toni Espinosa of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jerry Hall; a daughter, Ann Hall; and several brothers.
