Elaine Schreier

Elaine Schreier, 80, of Charles City, died Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Funeral services for Elaine Schreier will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastors Dennis Niezwaag and David Werges will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Elaine Jean Soli Schreier was born October 22, 1930, Vang, N.D. the third child of George and Ruth (Kjennrude) Soli. She graduated as valedictorian from Milton High School, Milton N.D. in 1948. She moved to Chicago in July of that same year and began employment as a receptionist with the Standard Oil Company. While living in Chicago she discovered a fondness for baseball and the Chicago Cubs which lasted all of her life. In 1953 she moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. worked at an employment agency. While there she met and married Adam Eugene “Gene” Schreier on August 6, 1954. They moved to Des Moines in 1956 settling in Charles City in August of 1957. Her interests included cooking, baking, watching various sports, listening to Country Western music, reading and bird watching. Elaine always looked forward to sharing her life with her family, especially her grandchildren. She really appreciated the laughs, luncheons and good times with many wonderful friends.

Living family members include her husband, Gene Schreier of Charles City; four children, Michael (Victoria) Schreier of Lexington, Ky., Teresa (David) Bennett of Cedar Rapids, Lance Schreier of Charles City and Timothy Schreier of Hoboken, N.J.; two grandchildren, Travis and Ryan Bennett; three brothers, Allan (Marge) Soli of Rapid City, S.D., Charles (Charlotte) Soli of Langdon, N.D. and Gene (Mary Ann) Soli of Milton, N.D.; a sister-in-law, Marietta (Stan) Nelson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Doris McCloud Hanson.

Elvie Leona Rose Reetz

A funeral service for Elvie Reetz will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt Street in Charles City with Pastor Debra Lincoln of the Colwell United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life will be held at Cedar Health, 807 5th Street in Charles City on Friday, June 24 at 2:00 p.m. to celebrate Elvie’s birthday.

Elvie Leona Rose Reetz was born on June 24, 1914 in Calhoun County, Iowa. Her parents were Frank and Lena (Wood) Rose. Elvie died on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City at the age of 96 years.

Elvie graduated from the Rinard High School in 1933. She then graduated from Capital City College in Des Moines. After graduation, she was a secretary for the Coca-Cola plant in Des Moines. In 1938 she was united in marriage to William Harold Dolph. To this union four children were born. After moving to the Colwell area, she became a farm woman. In December of 1955 she married Kenneth Reetz.

Elvie belonged to several organizations: Colwell United Church of Christ and Ladies Aide, Colwell Culture Club, Colwell Community Center, Women of the Moose, Iowa Federated Women’s Club, Rebecca Lodge, Air Force Mothers of American, and the Floyd County Navy Mothers. Ken and Elvie were also members of the Cedar Valley Steam Engine Association.

Those left to cherish her memory include her four children, Roselyn Beyer of Iowa, Paul Dolph of Oklahoma, Jerald Dolph of Texas and Janet Hancock of Colorado; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth in 1977 and her only sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and James B. Romans.

Evelyne Ann Knapp, 1 month old daughter of Anthony and Holly Knapp, of Charles City, died April 29, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Private family services will be held at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City.

Evelyne Ann Knapp was born March 30, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Although Evelyne’s time with us was short, she filled our hearts with a lifetime of love.

Living family members include her parents; maternal grandparents, Jeff and Jean Weigel of Charles City; paternal grandparents, Sandra and Tom Brownlow of Charles City and Bruce and Maria Knapp of Milwaukee, Wis.; maternal great grandparents, Irma Hamm of Charles City and James and Sharon Weigel of Charles City; paternal great grandparents, Theresa Cyra of German Town, Wis. and Roland and Naomi Knapp of Jackson, Wis.; aunts and uncles, Bruce Jr. and Pamela Knapp of Port Washington, Wis., Vincent Knapp of Milwaukee, Wis., Nichole Weigel of Charles City and Amanda Hamm of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her maternal great grandfather, Leonard Hamm and paternal step-grandfather, Peter May.
