Elvie Leona Rose Reetz


A funeral service for Elvie Reetz will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt Street in Charles City with Pastor Debra Lincoln of the Colwell United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Colwell United Church of Christ. A Celebration of Life will be held at Cedar Health, 807 5th Street in Charles City on Friday, June 24 at 2:00 p.m. to celebrate Elvie’s birthday.

Elvie Leona Rose Reetz was born on June 24, 1914 in Calhoun County, Iowa. Her parents were Frank and Lena (Wood) Rose. Elvie died on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City at the age of 96 years.

Elvie graduated from the Rinard High School in 1933. She then graduated from Capital City College in Des Moines. After graduation, she was a secretary for the Coca-Cola plant in Des Moines. In 1938 she was united in marriage to William Harold Dolph. To this union four children were born. After moving to the Colwell area, she became a farm woman. In December of 1955 she married Kenneth Reetz.

Elvie belonged to several organizations: Colwell United Church of Christ and Ladies Aide, Colwell Culture Club, Colwell Community Center, Women of the Moose, Iowa Federated Women’s Club, Rebecca Lodge, Air Force Mothers of American, and the Floyd County Navy Mothers. Ken and Elvie were also members of the Cedar Valley Steam Engine Association.

Those left to cherish her memory include her four children, Roselyn Beyer of Iowa, Paul Dolph of Oklahoma, Jerald Dolph of Texas and Janet Hancock of Colorado; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth in 1977 and her only sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and James B. Romans.
