Arlene Kolthoff


Arlene Kolthoff, 90, of Parkview Nursing & Rehab Center in Waterloo, formerly of Charles City, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 106 Chapel Lane in Charles City on Saturday, April 16 at 10:30 a.m. with Msgr. Stanley Hayek as celebrant. Burial will be in the New Hampton Cemetery in New Hampton. A visitation will be held at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt Street in Charles City on Friday, April 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a Scripture Service to be held at 5:00 p.m. For those desiring, memorials may be made to the family to be distributed at a later date. Arlene was born on September 18, 1920 in Chickasaw Township, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (McGrane) Cutsforth. She attended country school near Lawler. She was united in marriage to Robert F. Kolthoff on February 10, 1939 in Waterloo. Robert passed away in 1957. Arlene raised her family in New Hampton. She moved to Charles City in 1965 and to Waterloo in 2008. She worked as a waitress through most of her life. Arlene loved to go dancing. She also liked to cook. She loved children and enjoyed babysitting and volunteering as a Foster Grandmother. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and participated in the St. Anthony Circle.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; daughters, Helen and Cheryl in infancy; sons, John and Bob; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; son-in-law, Herbert Long; sisters, Madonna in infancy and Mable Randall; and brothers, Merle, Herb, Rob, Virgil, Glenn and Bill.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Nancy (Tom) Brettmann of Denver, IA, Patricia Long of New Hampton and Cliff (Margie) Kolthoff of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren, Terri (Kevin) Huber and Shawn (Bob) Buhrow of Denver, IA, Tracy (Anthony) Lumetta and Kenny (Lori) Kolthoff of Cedar Falls, Kevin (Kathy) Kolthoff of Colorado, Kelly (Cindy) Kolthoff of Ankeny, Karen (Matt) Long of State Center and Sherean (Tony) Barton of Minnesota; twenty-one great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Ida Mae Yearling and LaVerne (Charlene) Cutsforth, both of Waterloo, James Cutsforth of Calmar, and Cletus Cutsforth of Cottage Grove, MN.
