Virginia E. Thompson


Virginia E. Thompson, 88, of Charles City, died Friday morning, April 22, 2011, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Funeral services for Virginia Thompson will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Chaplain Sam Mack of the Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home.

Virginia Elizabeth Thompson was born August 23, 1922, in Charles City the daughter of John K. and Ina Grace (White) Thompson. In 1940, she graduated from the Charles City High School. Over the years Virginia was employed at Sherman Nursery, Commercial Trust and Savings, was a civilian with Signal Corp., JC Penny Company and Salsbury Laboratories. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Peace Group, Charles City Woman’s Club and Women’s Cemetery Improvement Association where she served as Treasurer. Virginia was also a member of the Wa-Tan-Ye Club, where she held offices locally as well as District Director at one time. Her interests included reading and cooking.

Living family members include her brother, Robert (Darlene) Thompson of Jesup; sister-in-law, Dawn Thompson of Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, John, Donald, Gordon, Douglas and Russell Thompson; two sisters, Winnifred Zierath and Dorothy Ward; and several sisters-in-law.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church or Hospice of North Iowa.
