Charles E. Reams

Charles E. Reams, 68, of Charles City, formerly of Marble Rock, died Sunday, January 30, 2011 at his residence in Charles City.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt Street in Charles City. Burial will be in Westside Cemetery in rural Marble Rock later this summer. Charles was born on December 14, 1942 in Greene, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Bernadine (Leider) Reams. He graduated from Rockford High School. Charles was united in marriage to Nancy Gibson on May 29, 1964 at the Wesleyan United Methodist Church in Bristow. Charles met his future wife at his first job the Greene Creamery. He later did factory work at Oliver/White Farm and Con Agra until his retirement. After living in Marble Rock most of his life, Charles moved to Charles City in 2004.

Charlie was a simple yet giving man. He enjoyed a lot of the local music festivals, especially Bluegrass. His other interests were auctions and rummage sales. He had very eclectic taste from Avon bottles to whiskey decanters to anything unique or unusual. Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family especially with his grandchildren, and an occasionally practical joke with his brother-in-law, Mel.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Terry (Jessica) Reams of Parkersburg and Tracy (Mark) Tomlinson of Kensett; grandchildren, Tyler, Lyndsey, Ryen and Dylen Reams; sister, Charlotte Reams of Charles City; in-laws, Lynda (Mel) Primmer, Gary (Louann) Gibson and Robert Junker; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy in 2004; and daughter, Tina Reams.

Jasen A. Wroblewski

Jasen A. Wroblewski, 34, of Charles City, died Saturday, January 29, 2011, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral services for Jasen Wroblewski will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Kent Sovine of Bethany Alliance Church will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Jasen Alan Wroblewski was born March 1, 1976, in Monticello, the son of Stephen Luensmann and Elisa Wilcox. He attended school in Waterloo and Clarksville. While attending the Clarksville school, they wanted to promote Jasen to the talented and gifted program, but Jasen declined. He was employed at Kentucky Fried Chicken as a manager and Diversified. Jasen also was a handyman, working lots of odd-end jobs. He enjoyed attending the Bethany Alliance Church. His interests included his dog Rosco, playing pinball, four wheeling, snowmobiling, art work, computer and video games and spending time with his family and friends.

Living family members include his son, Jamison Zirbel of Charles City; mother, Elisa Winkey of Waterloo; three brothers, Donald (Danell) Wroblewski of Vinton, Jeremiah Wroblewski of Charles City and Arron Winkey of Waterloo; sister, Melissa Winkey of Waterloo; many nieces and nephews; one uncle, Earl Wilcox of Missouri; two aunts, Terri (Jim) Anderson of Maquoketa and Jerelyn Ehlinger of Davenport; and many friends

William “Bill” S Hart

William “Bill” S Hart, 81, of Charles City, died Monday morning, January 24, 2011, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for William Hart will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City. Pastor Gary Van Wert will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

William S Hart was born March 27, 1929, in Waverly, the son of Albert and Penina (Harvey) Hart. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1948. On May 19, 1947, he was united in marriage to Frieda Bill in Decorah. In 1983, Bill retired from White Farm after 37 years. Along with working at White Farm, Bill did carpentry work around Charles City for many years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. His interests included fishing with family and friends at Lake of the Woods in Minnesota, home gardening, watching various sports, playing cards, especially 500, collecting Franklin Mint Cars and Michael Jordan memorabilia. Bill also enjoyed his morning and afternoon McDonald’s coffee group and his dog, Teddy.

Living family members include his wife, Frieda Hart of Charles City; four children, Michael (Charnel) Hart of Iowa City; Jim (Ruth) Hart of Farmington, Minn.; Joe (Shari) Hart of Charles City; and Teresa (Ed) Hobert of Charles City; six grandchildren, Jonathan Hart, Michele Hart-Beam, Jennifer Hart, Rob Hart, Tracy Hart and Melissa Jenkins; four great grandchildren, Abby Hart, Isabella Hart-Beam and Connor and Caitlin Jenkins; and one sister, Dixie (Harry) Fox of Charles City.

Harriet Holzer

Harriet Holzer, 86, of Charles City, died Sunday, January 23, 2011, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Harriet Holzer will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

Harriett Fae Hundley Holzer was born December 19, 1924 at New Hartford, the daughter of Otto and Cora (Schilling) Hundley. She received her education at Charles City Community School. On December 15, 1944, she was united in marriage to Ray Eikenberry. Ray died on May 3, 1984. Harriett married Gilbert Holzer on January 14, 1985. Gilbert died on October 29, 1994. Over the years she worked in various positions including at Ray’s Pizza and selling Avon products. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and V.F.W. Auxiliary where she had held various offices including president for two years. Harriett loved cats, the color purple and playing bingo.

Living family members include three children, Betty (Cliff) Abrams of Mesa, Ariz., Beverly Luttrell of Rockford, and Bradley (Katherine) Eikenberry of Mesa, Ariz.; six step children, Alvin (Kathy) Holzer of Denton, Tex., Kenny Holzer, Ray (Karen) Holzer and Ron Holzer all of Charles City, Jean (Dick) Bensend of Osage, and Judy (Rod) Barker of Waverly; 32 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; grandson; great granddaughter; a sister, Alberta Layman; and a daughter-in-law, Sandy Dolhman.

Thomas Murray

Thomas Murray, 78, of Charles City, died Saturday, January 22, 2011, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Thomas LeRoy Murray was born May 7, 1932, at Elma, the son of Harry and Addie (Miller) Murray. He received his education at Elma. Thomas served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On January 15, 1953 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Zobeck at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes. Thomas was employed at Oliver/White Farm Equipment Company for 39 years and after retirement also worked with Park and Recreation. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. His interests included bowling, fishing, yard work, coaching baseball and watching NASCAR. Thomas always looked forward to sharing his life with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Living family members include his wife, Evelyn Murray of Charles City; five children, Eugene (Barb) Murray of Webster City, Marlene (Jerry) Ennen of Homestead, Geraldine Droste of Gladston, IL, Dean (Brenda) Murray of Charles City and Jennifer (Kelvin) Marvin of Charles City; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a brother, David (Peg) Murray of Iowa Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

LaVern Schwickerath

LaVern Schwickerath, 73, of Charles City, died Sunday, January 23, 2010, at his home.

A funeral Mass for LaVern Schwickerath will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City. Military honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

LaVern Leo Schwickerath was born September 14, 1937, in Chickasaw County, the son of Victor and Rose (Gebel) Schwickerath. He graduated from St. William of Alta Vista. LaVern served in the United States Army from 1955-1958. On September 21, 1957, he was united in marriage to Marlene Elliott at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elma. LaVern was a foreman in the chemical plant at Salsbury/Solvay/Cambrex for over 40 years. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and V.F.W. LaVern’s interests included playing cards, going on casino bus trips and being a snowbird to Apache Junction, Ariz. Family was always important to LaVern and he took every opportunity to share his life with them.

Living family members include his wife, Marlene Schwickerath of Charles City; 3 children, Kathleen Waite of Cedar Rapids, Al Schwickerath of Charles City and Anthony (Jen) Schwickerath of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren, Ashley and Echo; a brother, Clair (Tina) Schwickerath of Maryland; four sisters, Ellen Wiest of Ft. Atkinson, Arlene (Mike) Heying of Alta Vista, Mildred Webber of Independence and Doris (Sylvester) Mrachek of Schley; and his special dog, Daisey.

Anthony Joseph Novak was born July 5, 1935, in Howard County, the son of Edward and Lillian (Neuzil) Novak. He received his education in Howard County. On October 15, 1956, he was united in marriage to Gladys Zobeck at Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes. Tony was employed for 35 years at Oliver/White Farm Equipment Company and for three years at Sherman Nursery. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. His interests included bowling and playing cards and Aggravation. Family was very important to Tony and he took every opportunity to share his life with them.

Living family members include six children, Wesley (Ellen) Novak of Conrad, Donald (Shelia) Novak of Spirit Lake, Garry Novak of Charles City, Danny (Lori) Novak of Charles City, Kevin (Anna) Novak of Independence, and Terri Novak of Charles City; 18 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, Edward (Agnes) Novak of Elma; and a sister, Mildred (Al) Hrdlicka of Elma.

Calvin Martin, 9, of Riceville, died Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at his home.

Calvin Eberly Martin was born December 17, 2001, at Riceville, the son of Mervin and Alma (Eberly) Martin. Calvin was a student at Riceville Elementary School.

Living family members include his parents Mervin and Alma Martin of Riceville; six siblings, Eileen, Michael, Chester, Russell, Karen and Kurtis Martin all at home; paternal grandparents, Noah and Minerva Martin of New Holland, Penn; and maternal grandmother, Miriam Eberly of Narvon, Penn.

Dorothy Elsie Meyer was born February 5, 1918, in Linn Grove, the daughter of William and Alice (Whitehouse) DeLong. She attended school in Linn Grove. On September 25, 1934, she was united in marriage to Clinton William Meyer at Storm Lake. Her interests included gardening, fishing, crocheting and baking.

Living family members include her three children, Clinton Meyer of Charles City, Patty (Fred) Miller of Charles City and Kay Shepley of Hawaii; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

James D. Schneckloth

James D. Schneckloth, 79, of Charles City, died Wednesday afternoon, December 29, 2010, at his home in Charles City.

Funeral services for James Schneckloth will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the First Congregational Church in Charles City. Pastor Forrest Cornelius will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Hampton Cemetery in Hampton.

James Dean Schneckloth was born April 12, 1931, in Anthon, the son of Charles F. and Mabel (Nelson) Schneckloth. He graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, S.D. After high school, he attended Iowa State Teachers College and received his Masters Degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago, Ill. From 1952 to 1954, Jim served in the United States Army in the German Occupation Forces. On July 20, 1958, he was united in marriage to Nadine Davis at Hansell. Jim was employed as a teacher for eight years at Waukegan, Ill., 10 years as hospital administrator at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy, N.Y. and 18 years as hospital administrator for Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Blue Lodge of the Masons in Troy, N.Y., American Legion, American College of Hospital Administrators, Rotary Club, Heritage Club, Friends of the Library and was very active in many civic organizations in the community. Jim was an avid reader, enjoyed golf, hunting, skeet shooting, mowing the grass, working outside, gardening and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Living family members include his wife, Nadine Schneckloth of Charles City; two sons, Mark (Shirley) Schneckloth of Cupertino, Calif. and Scott (Susan) Schneckloth of Plymouth; three grandchildren, Erika, Jon and Kim Schneckloth; one great grandchild, Chase Schneckloth; two step-grandsons, Jake and Jarrid Paulsen; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
