Harriet Holzer


Harriet Holzer, 86, of Charles City, died Sunday, January 23, 2011, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Harriet Holzer will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday where there will be a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 6 p.m.

Harriett Fae Hundley Holzer was born December 19, 1924 at New Hartford, the daughter of Otto and Cora (Schilling) Hundley. She received her education at Charles City Community School. On December 15, 1944, she was united in marriage to Ray Eikenberry. Ray died on May 3, 1984. Harriett married Gilbert Holzer on January 14, 1985. Gilbert died on October 29, 1994. Over the years she worked in various positions including at Ray’s Pizza and selling Avon products. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and V.F.W. Auxiliary where she had held various offices including president for two years. Harriett loved cats, the color purple and playing bingo.

Living family members include three children, Betty (Cliff) Abrams of Mesa, Ariz., Beverly Luttrell of Rockford, and Bradley (Katherine) Eikenberry of Mesa, Ariz.; six step children, Alvin (Kathy) Holzer of Denton, Tex., Kenny Holzer, Ray (Karen) Holzer and Ron Holzer all of Charles City, Jean (Dick) Bensend of Osage, and Judy (Rod) Barker of Waverly; 32 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; grandson; great granddaughter; a sister, Alberta Layman; and a daughter-in-law, Sandy Dolhman.
