Ercyl E. Keeling


Ercyl E. Keeling, 89, of Charles City, died Monday morning, August 8, 2011, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Ercyl Keeling will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City with Military Honors by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ercyl Edward Keeling was born May 7, 1922, in Bosworth, Mo., the son of Ola J. and Nellie Frances (Pancoast) Keeling. He attended school in Keytesville, Mo. From October 20, 1942 to November 6, 1945, Ercyl served in the United States Army. On December 5, 1943, he was united in marriage to Ruth Merfeld at Camp Adair, in Corvallis, Ore. Ercyl was employed at White Farm for 28 years. He was a member of the Elk Lodge, Moose Lodge, V.F.W. and General Society of the Mayflower Descendants. He enjoyed cars, boating, fishing, hunting and raising hybrid roses.

Living family members include his wife, Ruth Keeling of Charles City; four children, Denise (Marvin) Bates of Evansville, Ind., Linda Dannan of Manchester, Mo., David Keeling of Davenport and Mark Keeling of Comanche; eight grandchildren; one great grandson; two brothers, Harold Keeling of Olathe, Kans. and Ralph (Sammy Jo) Keeling of Independence, Mo.; and a sister, Dixie (Daley) Walker of Parkville, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Clark Keeling.
