Vera E. Vaughan


Vera E. Vaughan, 87, of Charles City, died Sunday evening, August 28, 2011, at the 9th St. Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Vera Vaughan will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City. Pastor Jim Beranek will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Germany Valley Cemetery, Shirleysburg, Pa.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Vera Elizabeth Bucher was born, November 11, 1923, in Huntingdon County, Pa., the daughter of Norman G. and Mary Alice (McKim) Bucher. In 1943, she graduated from Mt. Union High School in Pennsylvania. On August 14, 1944, she was united in marriage to Lee E. Vaughan in Huntingdon, Pa. For over 20 years, Vera was employed at various factories. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and Charity Peace Women’s Circle. Her interests included reading, camping and traveling the United States.

Living family members include her husband, Lee Vaughan of Charles City; son, Lee (Roberta) Vaughan, Jr. of Phillip, S.D.; four grandchildren, Ruth (Jon) Carley, Daniel (Amielyn) Vaughan, Naomi (William) Terkildsen and Elizabeth (Alan) Lueth; 16 great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, John Beaver of Louistown, Pa. and Earl Vaughan of McVeytown ; and a nephew, Duane Bucher of Racine, Wis.

She was preceded in death by parents; son, Kenelm Vaughan on December 7, 1966; sister, Helen Beaver on July 1, 2011; and a brother, Janvier Bucher on February 23, 1978.
